La Trobe University was officially opened on 8 March 1967 by the Premier of Victoria. It began teaching during the first term of that year.

La Trobe was the third university established in Victoria. It has grown to accommodate more than 15,000 students at its Bundoora campus and over 7,000 at campuses in Albury-Wodonga, Beechworth, Bendigo, Mildura, Mount Buller, Melbourne City and Shepparton.

La Trobe is an internationally recognised leader in tertiary education and training. It is committed to providing undergraduate and postgraduate teaching of the highest quality, supported by an outstanding research profile.
